Dental Prostheses

Depends on the type and damage to tooth we have mainly two types of Dental Prostheses are available:

  • Fixed Dental Prostheses
  • Removable Dental Prostheses

Some of the common Dental Prostheses include:

  • Crowns(Caps): Crowns or Caps are artificial coverins fort the teeth made from a variety of biocompatible materials, including CMC/PMC (ceramic/porcelain metal composite), gold or a tin/aluminium mixture. The underlying tooth/teeth must be reshaped to accommodate these fixed restorations to suit it to cover it correctly.
  • Veneers: Veneers are artificial coverings similar to that of Crowns, except that they only cover the forward (labial or buccal) surface of the tooth. Usually Veneers are used for aesthetic purposes only.
  • Bridges: Bridges are fixed prosthesis in which two or more crowns are connected together, which replace a missing tooth or teeth through a bridge. Bridges are typically used after an extraction to fill those vacant spaces.
  • Implants: A procedure in which a titanium implant is surgically placed in the bone (mandible or maxilla) and once it is healed after 4 – 6 months and artificial tooth is connected to the implant by cement or retained by a screw.
  • Dentures (False Teeth): Denture is a partial or complete set of dentition which either attach to the neighbouring teeth by the use of metal or plastic grasps or to the gingival or palatal surface with an adhesive.
  • Implant-supported Prosthesis: Here, a combination of Dentures, Implants and Braces are placed into the bone, allowed to heal, and metal appliances are fixed to the gingival surface, following which dentures are placed atop and fixed into place.
